MORE THAN 1.5 MLN VISITORS EXPECTED AT M'SIA'S MAHA INTERNATIONAL 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- More than 1.5 million local and foreign
visitors are expected during the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and
Agrotourism International Show (MAHA) 2010 beginning Nov 26.
Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Noh Omar said the 10-day
event had so far managed to attract 20 countries to participate, and more
were expected to join as an extensive marketing campaign was being carried out.
"In order to place MAHA 2010 as the prime agriculture event of the region
and gain its recognition with other international agro shows, we have extended
the promotion campaign to Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.
"Sales are forecasted to grow 56.3 per cent to RM15 million (US$4.68
million) from RM9.6 million (US$3 million) in the previous edition of MAHA on
2008," he said after gracing the soft launching of MAHA 2010, here Tuesday.
The sixth edition of the MAHA will be held at the Malaysia Agro-Exposition
Park Serdang.
Elaborating further about the event, Noh said that the expo was set to
position Malaysia as a centre of excellence in the development of agriculture
and the agro-based industry in order to attract private and foreign investment.
"MAHA 2010, themed 'Agricultural Innovation for Growth' is a show that
flaunts Malaysia's best producers, farmers, fishermen and stockmen, as well as a
platform to pitch the region's best agro-based companies.
"Focus will be given to highlight new innovative technologies which I am
certain, will attract potential foreign exhibitors, active buyers, sellers and
visitors to make Malaysia as their preferred One-Stop Centre for product
showcase and trading purposes," he added.
