FLOOD DISASTER: MALAYSIA TO CONTRIBUTE US$1 MLN AID TO PAKISTAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government has decided to
contribute US$1 million to the Pakistan government as humanitarian aid in the
wake of the flood disaster that hit several parts of Pakistan since July 22.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement here Thursday night said the aid was a
manifestation of the government and people's concern and sympathies to the
government and people of Pakistan over the loss of lives and destruction of
infrastructure and property as a result of the disaster.

"The government of Malayisa hopes the contribution will help alleviate the
suffering of flood victims in Pakisatn," said the statement.

The flood disaster, Pakistan's worst in 80 years, has so far claimed at least
1,600 lives and left almost a million others homeless.

The lives of some 3.5 million people in Pakistan's provinces of Punjab,
Baluchistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa have also been affected by
the disaster.
