MAKE INNOVATION WAY OF LIFE, SAYS PM

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak said innovativeness
should be a way of life for Malaysian society towards making the nation's
innovation agenda a success.

He said the innovation programme should be more practical to ensure it was
easily accepted by the people from all walks of life and eventually be close to
their hearts.

"Making innovation acceptable to society first is important before each member
can make it a part of his or her daily life. Making innovation our culture can
help bring Malaysia to a high level of transformation and development for
greater success in the future."

Najib said this in the souvenir programme book in conjunction with the four-day
Islamic Innovation Carnival 2010 beginning Thursday at the Qiblat Walk, near
Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, here, Thursday.

The carnival was expected to be opened by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin
Thursday night.

Najib said in conjunction with the declaration of 2010 as Innovation Year for
the nation, the government had introduced various new strategies and initiatives
for implementation.

In line with the nation's aims and aspirations, he said the government had made
the national innovation agenda as the goal for generating new growth and
economic quantum leap, to make Malaysia a high-income nation in line with the
New Economic Model.

Najib said the approach used such as by organising the Islamic Innovation
Carnival reflected clearly the government's effort in developing the nation and
ummah (Muslim community) based on innovation, towards making Malaysia a
progressive, prosperous and world-class model for other Muslim countries.

He said the organising of the carnival also proved that Islam did not only
encourage its followers to perform their daily religious rituals but to also
conduct studies, research and development (R&D) and innovations in various
fields "that will make managing our lives better, faster and cheaper".

Najib said if Muslims understood and put into practice Allah's words for them to
seek wealth and do good for this world and the hereafter, Muslims would be able
to bring back the glory of the past Islamic civilisation.
