Dengue fever spread in Savannakhet is under kept surveillance

(KPL) - The spread of dengue fever in Kaisone Phomvihane district, Savannakhet province is under surveillance closely because ten cases are reported to be infected with dengue fever at the moment.

So this is an urgent measure that Savannakhet province is being taken in action to prevent the recent outbreak in the district.

This is monsoon disease usually occurs in rainy season during this month and spreads in populous communities like in Kaisone Phomvihane district.

Dr Vongsouvanh Phanthavongsa, Deputy Head of Savannakhet Public Health Division disclosed at a training course on surveillance, seeking alarming system, investigation and responding disease outbreak at Savannakhet province, 22 July.

Last year, dengue fever killed eight people out of total 1,600 casesinfected with dengue fever.

This figure compared to the same period just fund only 16 cases, luckily no one died.

Most infected cases were found in municipality of Kaisone Phomvihanedistrict and other populous district communities.

This year figure was defined as a sharply decrease thanks to an affective measure of medical district and provincial teams has been responded to the spreading area.

The surveillance plan will take in action till mid-August.

In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, more than 10,500 local and foreign tourists visited Ngoy district and this is an increase of 1,492 tourists or 14.25 per cent, compared to 2006-2007.

To cater to the basic needs of the tourists this district has 29 hotels, 15 restaurants and a resort.

While Ngoy district has more than 12 tourist sites (5 natural, 4 historic and 3 cultural sites) but it is not resting on its laurels and it has drawn up a tourism development plan. A district government official said that it is trying to make its three caves more attractive to tourists.

They are the Phakuang, Pha Boi and Pha Thok caves. He also said that the district is trying to make the trekking routes in the Khong and Lan streams areas more user friendly.
