MAPIM AID MISSION ENTERS EL-ARISH
SHUHADA, PALESTINE, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The ‘Ramadan March for Freedom’ aid
mission to Gaza, which left Cairo at about 1pm (local time) Sunday, succeeded in
entering El-Arish, a tourist town located about 345km from Cairo.
The mission, led by the Malaysian Islamic Organisations Consultative Council
(MAPIM), entered the town after passing through the fourth security check point
in Belize.
Based on the report by Bernama Radio24 corespondent Nizal Mohamad, who
participated in the mission, the group should have passed through 18 check
points from Cairo to El-Arish located not far from Rafah town.
"However, at the fourth check point in Belize, police escorted us to El-Arish,"
he said.
Nizal said the security check at each point took about 15 minutes, while the
journey from Cairo to El-Arish took six hours.
"All members of the mission, comprising 44 volunteers, are in good health. All
the volunteers are highly spirited to continue the mission," he said.
According to the schedule, the mission led by MAPIM secretary-general Azmi Abdul
Hamid would leave for Gaza Monday and expected to be in the Gaza refugee camp on
the first day of Ramadan.
