Khalifa bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation continues preparations for Ramadan Projects
Abu Dhabi, Aug 9, 2010 (WAM)- The Khalifa bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation (KZHF) has completed the preparations for the implementation of seasonal Ramadan humanitarian projects. The number of beneficiaries of the "Iftar" project, which is implemented by the foundation within the UAE during the holy month is about one and a half million people, while the number of beneficiaries of the project outside the country is more than four hundred and fifty thousand people in 40 Arab and Islamic countries around the world.
Mohammed Hajji Al Khouri, Director General of KZHF pointed out that according to World Bank and IMF the number of people who will be under the absolute poverty line is expected to reach 53 million by 2015 and the number of poor people will increase to reach 920 million during the next five years. Therefore, KZHF is working on to reducing the pace of poverty in the developing countries through its projects.
Al Khouri added that KZHF will provide nearly one million and 600 thousand meals during the holy month of Ramadan at the local level in various regions of the state. He noted that KZHF signed contracts with 90 foundations engaged in providing food and 10 companies specialised in construction of tents to meet all needs of comfort and safety.
The KZHF has contributed in supporting philanthropists’ families during the holy month of Ramadan through mandating them to prepare meals and motivate them to work in the areas of charitable and humanitarian work.
He explained that "Iftar" projects will be held at the sites characterised by high population density, especially areas with low-income people, such as, places with workers in different industrial areas and near public markets in the UAE in order to reach the largest possible number of eligible beneficiaries.
As for the beneficiary countries other than the UAE, they include Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, Mauritania, Somalia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Turkey, Senegal, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, India, Spain, Indonesia, Nigeria, Uganda, Comoros Islands, South Africa, Italy, France, Tanzania, China, Shanghai, Greece and Albania, the Philippines, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eritrea and Argentina. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
