VNA, KPL urged to boost bilateral cooperation

(KPL) - Cooperation between the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Khaosan Pathet Lao (KPL) should be more specific and practical to meet the growing requirements of national construction and development in each country.

Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education To Huy Rua made the remark while receiving on July 22 KPL Acting General Director Sounthone Khanthavong who is on a working visit to Vietnam at the invitation of VNA.

According to VNA, Khanthavong briefed his host about the results of recent cooperation between the two news agencies and thanked VNA for its valuable assistance in improving KPL's information efficiency, thus further promoting special ties between Laos and Vietnam.

The KPL official said he hoped VNA will continue to support the Lao news agency, particularly in its experiences in establishing bureaus abroad, noting that KPL is planning to set up its first epresentative office in Vietnam.

Expressing delight at effective cooperative ties between VNA and KPL in the recent past, Rua applauded the Lao news agency's initiative to publish a Vietnamese language newspaper in Vientiane to serve the Vietnamese community in Laos.

Rua, who is a member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, affirmed his support for KPL's plan to open a bureau in Vietnam.

Also on July 22, the KPL delegation held talks with its VNA counterpart headed by Deputy General Director Ha Minh Hue.

The two sides reviewed implementation of bilateral cooperation projects last year within the framework of a professional cooperation protocol for the 2006-2010 between VNA and KPL.

They held that their cooperation proved to be effective through information sharing and training, technical and professional assistance between VNA and KPL, helping tighten the special friendship and solidarity between the two peoples.

They agreed to further improve the quality of cooperation projects and cooperate in publishing a Vietnamese language newspaper in Laos and news and photo business activities.

The officials also agreed to jointly deliver information about the 25th Southeast Asian Games, upgrade KPL's technical infrastructure and teach Vietnamese and Lao languages to their editors.

During its visit, the KPL delegation is scheduled to make an on-the-ground study at a VNA bureau in central Quang Binh province.
