IRAN OFFERS EXPERTISE TO SET UP NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN MALAYSIA
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Iran has expressed interest to offer its
expertise in nuclear energy technology to enable Malaysia set up a nuclear power
plant, Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatitives) Deputy Speaker Dr Wan Junaidi
Tuanku Jaafar said Monday.
He said the interest was stated by the Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Prof
Dr Mohammad Mehdi Zahedi when the latter called on him Monday at his office at
Parliament House, here.
Dr Wan Junaidi told reporters that he informed Dr Mohammad Mehdi that
Malaysia had yet to make a final decision on setting up a nuclear power plant
and that it was still premature at the moment.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui had
said that the government would make a final decision on nuclear technology
development as an alternative to electricity generation after considering the
outcome of the Nuclear Power Infrastructure Development Plan (NPIDP) which was
expected to be ready in 2013.
Dr Wan Junaidi also said that Dr Mohammad Mehdi welcomed Malaysians,
particularly youths, to participate in the "Voice Day" event scheduled for the
last Friday of the Ramadan fasting month at the Iranian embassy here to protest
Israeli atrocities against Palestine.
