OIC SEC-GEN VOICES CONCERN OVER VIOLENCE IN KASHMIR

By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC)
secretary-general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has called on India to end its human
rights violations in Kashmir and seek a peaceful and negotiated settlement of
the Kashmir dispute.

He strongly condemned the violence perpetrated by the Indian security
forces against innocent Kashmiris, leading to the loss of numerous lives,
according to a statement from the Jeddah-based grouping of Muslim countries.

Dozens of people were reported killed in weeks of violence as residents in
Muslim-majority Kashmir protested against Indian rule.

"The secretary-general has voiced his deep concern at the latest
developments in Kashmir," said the statement.

Ihsanoglu reiterated the solidarity of the OIC with the Kashmiri people and
reaffirmed their legitimate right to self-determination.
