FOREIGN MISSIONS NOTIFIED ON HALAL CERTIFIED HOTELS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Islamic Development Department
(Jakim) has notified 34 foreign missions here on a list of 22 hotels in the
capital which have been certified halal.

Its director-general, Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the embassies
and high commissions were also informed that halal certification came under the
jurisdiction of Jakim and state religious departments.

He said a circular on the notification, which was sent Wednesday, would
enable foreign missions to select halal hotels when hosting the breaking of
Ramadan fast.

Twenty-two hotels and 51 kitchen in the capital have been certified halal by
Jakim until Aug 9, he said in a statement.

He said the public could also get the list of hotels from Jakim and state
religious departments.
