PM calls for end to petrol smuggling

Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged relevant ministries, cities and provinces to take bold measures to prevent petrol smuggling across borders in an official document released on July 22.

According to Document No 4803/VPCP-KNTN released on the Government'swebsite, the central board on anti-smuggling, counterfeiting and trade fraud, in coordination with the governmental office, will have to supervise and ensure that relevant local authorities carry out the PM's directions.

New petrol stations in the south-west border region will not be allowed to open to prevent petrol smuggling in those areas.

The PM also directed the Ministry of Public Securities, Ministry of Defence and provincial People's Committees to set up a special force to catch petrol being smuggled out via road and waterway transportation.

Following the PM's directions, the People's Committee of the southern Dong Thap province has decided to establish a special force unit to prevent petrol smuggling, and supervise other violations in petrol trading activities.

The provincial force will supervise the trading of petrol between stations and distributors, and violators will be dealt with immediately or passed along to higher authorities in serious cases.-Enditem.
