MALAYSIAN FORMULA FUTURE TEAM HAS TO OVERCOME TOUGH WEATHER CONDITIONS IN ENGLAND

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Ten Malaysian pilots spearheading the
country's challenge in the World Formula Future championships which started in
Carr Mill Dam, St.Helens, Merseyside, England Friday, have been encountering
numerous challenges, including cold weather.

Malaysian Formula Future head coach Syed Abdul Hamid Syed Alwee in a statement
released Saturday said apart from being given very little time to train, the
young pilots had to endure tough weather conditions.

"We were only given 2 to 4 hours for training during free practice
yesterday (Friday). In addition, the boats used were also left-hand drive,
especially for the Class 4 and 5.

"This is because European countries use the left-hand drive specification. This
actually gives the European pilots an advantage," he said.

Syed Abdul Hamid said his charges were able to adapt to the conditions and
surroundings in Merseyside although the weather conditions were unpredictable,
with continuous rain.

"They are in good physical, mental and spiritual conditions although it can get
very cold due to the rain and strong winds since temperatures hover around 9-14
degree Celsius," he said.

He added that the 10 pilots representing the country would compete in the five
classes contested (Class 1-5).

Syed Abdul Hamid said he expects stiff competition from countries like Germany,
England and especially Russia, who emerged as the overall champion in 2009.

Eight countries, namely Malaysia, Germany, England, Portugal, Russia, Czech
Republic, Slovakia and Poland are taking part this year.
