PUTERA 1MALAYSIA MISSION AIDS 2,750 FAMILIES IN GAZA
GAZA CITY, Aug 16 (Bernama) - The Putera 1Malaysia Club humanitarian mission
to Gaza provided aid to 2,750 families, more than its target of 2,000.
President and mission head Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said it also distributed
over 11 tonnes of food and essentials items like blankets to over 5,000 people
including children and single parents.
The mission organised with cooperation of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society
(MRCS) also gave medicine worth US$10,000 to the Palestine Red Crescent Society
(PRCS) for those in Rafah Jabalyah, Der Al-Balah, Khan Younis and Gaza City.
"The donation was given under the 1Malaysia umbrella," he said at Al-Quds
Hospital (AQH) Monday witnessed by PRCS president Dr Younis El-Khateeb, MRCS
vice-president Dr Bahari Abu Mansor, operations director Nasir Khan Abdul
Rahman, PRCS vice-president and AQH director Dr Khaleed Joudah and PRCS disaster
unit head Dr Khaleel Abu Mansor.
Azeez said that he would be making a complete report on the mission to be
given to several parties including patron of the largest mission yet, the
Malaysian Prime Minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor.
The 67-strong team including 35 doctors and paramedics of all races also
held emergency and trauma training at Al-Amal Hospital at Khan Younis.
Meanwhile, Dr Younis said the mission sent a clear message to the
Palestinians in Gaza that Malaysia and the world had not forgotten them.
"Your presence here gives social impact to the Palestinians in Gaza and
hopefully, this will continue," he added.
The mission also presented US$2,500 to five mosques in Gaza.
Nearly half of the 1.5 million population are dependent on foreign aid since
Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza over 18 months ago.
