Energy Minister passes away

Dr. Borsaikham Vongdara, Minister of Energy and Mining, passed away in the morning of 24 July 2008 at the age of 60.

The demise was announced by the Executive Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the government and the central Lao Front for National Construction.

Dr. Borsaikham Vongdara was a member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee (LPRP CC) (seventh Congress), secretary of the Party Cell of the Ministry and Minister of Energy and Mining, and former President of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU).

After he had fallen ill, the authorities concerned and his family, and the teams of domestic and foreign doctors have exerted their utmost capacity to the treatment to save his life. Regrettably, due to his serious illness, he departed yesterday morning.

In commemoration of his good deeds and devotion to the nation and therevolution and with profound grief, the Executive Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the government and the central Lao Front for National Construction have agreed on a funeral and four days of mourning for Dr. Borsaikham Vongdara, from 24 to 27 July 2008.

His body has been laid in state at the Prime Minister's Office (Nahaydiao). The funeral will be held at Vientiane's Thebnimith That Foun temple at 13:00 hours on Sunday, 27 July 2008. The LPRP CC Secretariat has set up a committee in charge of his funeral, which is chaired by Mrs. Onechanh Thammavong, LPRP CC member and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare.

Dr. Borsaikham Vongdara was born on 15 April 1948 at Phonsavanh village, Paek district, Xiengkhouang province. He married Mrs. Vankham Vongdara and had two children.
