Laos-Vietnam Co-operation committee visits four southern provinces in Laos

(KPL) The members of the Lao-Vietnam Co-operation Committee made a joint working visit to four southern provinces of Laos, Savannakhet, Champassak, Sekong and Attapeu from 21-24 July. The President of the Committee led the Vietnamese side for Lao-Vietnam Co-operation Mr Nguyen Sinh Hung and Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, Standing Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao government was the leader of the Lao delegation.

This kind of joint visit is an annual event.

Last year they visited the northern provinces. During the four-day visit the delegation met the leaders of the four provinces and participated in the 30th Plenary Session Meeting of the Lao-Vietnam Co-operation Committee.

Mr. Somsavat commented during this meeting, on the results of the bilateral co-operation between Lao and Vietnam and he suggested various measures that should be taken by both sides to overcome the impasse in the agreement on bilateral cooperation. The main aim, he said, is to continue with the close ties and all round co-operations between two countries, Laos and Vietnam.

The joint delegation also participated in the ceremony for the presentation of cash grants to the five northern provinces: Bokeo, Phongsaly, Luang Prabang, Houaphanh and Xiengkhouang. Three of them, Borkeo, Phongsaly and Luang Prabang received USD 100,000 each. The other two provinces, Houaphanh and Xiengkhouang received dong 5 billion each. The Saigon Investment Company gave all these grants. During the tour, the joint delegation visited the Densavan Border Checkpoint, the Lao Guasageruco Joint Stock Company of Vietnam and the ongoing construction project of the Traditional Exhibition Museum of Battle N. 9. All the three are located in Sepon, Savannakhet.

They also visited the second Friendship Bridge, which is in Savannakhet town.
