M'SIAN MINISTER SHABERY EXPRESSES PRIDE OF MALAYSIAN DELEGATES AT GMUN

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Shabery
Cheek has expressed his pride of Malaysian delegates at the Global Model United
Nations Conference (GMUN) here for introducing the 1Malaysia concept to the
participants.

"Imagine, young people under 24 years are talking about 1Malaysia to the
global community... they expounded on the idea as they are proud of it and not
because they are forced to do so," he said.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the media centre here Wednesday, he
said this showed that young people were beginning to understand the 1Malaysia
concept and it was gaining momentum.

A total of 352 undergraduates from 52 countries including 68 from Malaysia
took part in the five-day conference with the theme "Towards an Alliance of
Civilisation: Bridging Cultures to Achieve Peace and Development" which comes to
a close today.

Ahmad Shabery said he was impressed with the leadership quality displayed by
participants from all over the world as they work diligently to present positive
image of their countries at the international arena.

"They also expressed their interest in joining the next GMUN Conference in
South Korea with their own resources and initiative without depending on their
government," he said.
