SINGAPORE EXTENDS ANOTHER US$50,000 TO FLOOD-HIT PAKISTAN
SINGAPORE, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Singapore Government is contributing
another US$50,000 (about RM156,000) in humanitarian assistance to Pakistan for
relief efforts following the devastating floods in that country.
The first contribution was made recently in the wake of reports of the
massive scale of the disaster.
The Singapore Foreign Affairs Ministry said today the additional
contribution would be used by Singaporean humanitarian organisation Mercy Relief
to restock its supplies of water treatment systems, food and medicines for the
flood victims.
The first Mercy Relief aid relief team had returned from Pakistan, and a
second team would leave for the country within the next two weeks, the ministry
said in a statement.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force has also deployed two officers under the
auspices of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs, to help on-site teams in Pakistan to assess the needs of flood victims
and coordinate relief activities.
