MALAYSIAN DELEGATES PERFORM WELL AT GMUN 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysian delegates to the Global Model
United Nations Conference (GMUN) 2010 have performed well, said veteran diplomat
Dr Rajmah Hussain.

She said Malaysian delegates showed the ability to engage foreign
participants in discussions and debates during the five-day conference.

"What is important, GMUN provides training and platform for youths to
experience Model UN meetings," she told reporters on the sidelines of the GMUN
2010 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Wednesday.

A total of 352 undergraduates from 52 countries including 68 from Malaysia
took part in the five-day conference with the theme "Towards an Alliance of
Civilisation: Bridging Cultures to Achieve Peace and Development" which comes to
a close today.

Rajmah, a seasoned bilateral and multilateral diplomat, said however,
Malaysian delegates need to polish their oratory and debating skills.

"Sometimes they have ideas but they do not know how to express them.

"We do not want language barrier, especially English to prevent us from
achieving the objectives of the conference for they made grammatical errors in
speeches and reports," she said, adding that minor errors in speeches and
reports would put diplomats in a bad light.

Rajmah, who was Malaysia's first woman ambassador to the United States, was
responsible in providing a simulation environment on the work of a diplomat and
how diplomacy works to GMUN delegates during the conference.
