Rasheda urges people to vote for honest candidates

DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 26 (BSS) - Adviser for Primary and Mass Education and Cultural Affairs Rasheda K Chowdhury today urged the people to elect honest and qualified candidates in the next parliamentary elections.

Addressing as the chief guest the installation ceremony of 53rd Rotaract District at National Sports Council auditorium in the city, Rasheda urged the youth community to work unitedly to build a happy Bangladesh free from hunger, poverty andcorruption. The youth can make "our dream" true, she added.

The adviser said moves are on to promulgate law to cancel voting of a constituency, if less than 50 percent of the total votes are cast there. The Election Commission will take the finaldecision in this regard, she added.

The adviser highlighted the successes of the government inattaining gender equality in primary education.

Chaired by Rotaract Saiful Amin Khokan, the function was also addressed by former Bangladesh Cricket Team Captain Rafiqul Hassan, Rotarian M Kamruzzaman Khan Tipu, Rotarian AQM AtiqurRahman and Rotarian Anowar Chowdhury.

Four persons were given awards in the function for their outstanding contributions in different fields. The recipients are Rotarian Ferdous Ali, M Gaffar Hossain Chowdhury, Rotarian MOsman Gani and Rotarian Moksed Ali, an official handout said.
