Strategic command post exercise beginning in Siberia
MOSCOW, July 26 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Armed Forces begin a strategiccommand post exercise codenamed Vostok'2008 in Siberia Saturday.
"The task of the exercise is to practice the issues of planning and organization of measures aimed at counteracting terrorism, as well asneutralizing the aftereffects of ecological and manmade disasters on the territory of the Siberian Federal District," Ilshat Baichurin, the acting chief press officer of the Russian Defense Ministry told Itar-Tass.
The exercise involves the staffs of branches and services of the Armed Forces, military units and army drafting/reserve management offices in Russia's eastern regions.
Army General Nikolai Makarov, the Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has been placed in command of these war games thatwill last through to August 1, Baichurin said.
