SECURITY GUARD DECORATES BICYCLE WITH FLAGS FOR NATIONAL DAY
By Azeman Ariffin
GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), Aug 21 (Bernama) -- There is a 'poor' and
'rich' side to Fauzi Jalil.
On one hand, he works as a security guard at a school here, earning a meagre
income which he uses to support his aged parents and siblings.
On the other hand, the 31-year-old, whose bicycle is his only means of
transport, is immensely 'rich' -- in his patriotism for the country.
Year in and year out, the true-blue Malaysian does not fail to express his
patriotism by spending money -- as much as RM100 (US$32) -- to buy Malaysian
flags to decorate the bicycle, in conjunction with National Day.
"I feel proud riding my bicycle laden with Malaysian flags...I don't care
what people say.
"They can laugh all they want. I am used to receiving such reaction from
those who did not understand the meaning of independence...but I am doing my
part for my country.
"What is more meaningful is that I am proud of our country's independence.
The children at the school also understand why I decorate my bicycle with
national flags.
"Since I was a child, I have been decorating my bicycle with flags to show
my spirit when celebrating National Day," Fauzi told Bernama in an interview
Saturday.
