UKRAINE AND MALAYSIA CAN BENEFIT FROM EDUCATION AND TOURISM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Ukraine could benefit from more intensive exchange in education and tourism areas to continue the bilateral and multilateral ties between two countries.

The Ukraine Embassy in Malaysia said in a statement, each year thousands of
Ukrainians visited Malaysia as tourists and their choice is shared by tourists
from other countries taking into account the beautiful nature and rich cultural
traditions of Malaysia.

It said since 2003, more than 1,500 Malaysian students had the opportunity to
receive higher education in Ukraine, mostly in medicine.

"Those who had graduated from Ukrainian institutions became highly educated
specialists and certainly contribute greatly not only to the development of
their motherland but also to the strengthening of cultural ties between the two
countries.

"The co-operation in this area should be expanded in coming years," it said in
conjunction with Ukraine's 19th anniversary of its Independence Tuesday.

The embassy said Malaysia had been among the first countries in Asia that
recognised the independence of Ukraine in 1992.

"Considering the political and economic influence of Malaysia in the region of
South-East Asia as well as its growing authority among the Muslim world, Ukraine
is taking all efforts and energy to maintain and further develop close bilateral
relations between Ukraine and Malaysia, as well as to strengthen cultural ties
between its people," it said.
