GUANGZHOU ASIAN GAMES TICKETS ON SALE IN OCTOBER

SINGAPORE, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Three million tickets will be on sale to the
public for the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China to be held from Nov 12 to
27.

The tickets, to be put on sale beginning October, and priced between 10 yuan
and 400 yuan, or 88 yuan on average, are for the 42 sports that would be
featured in the Games.

Ji Lei, a member of the games organising committee, told a media conference
here Tuesday, the Asiad this year would have the most number of contestants and
events, including 28 Olympic games events and 14 non-Olympic sports.

He said it would be the biggest Asiad in history.

About 12,000 athletes and team officials, 6,500 technical officials, 10,000
journalists and over 2,000 members of the Olympic Council of Asia from 45 Asian
countries and regions are expected to attend the games.

The Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee is currently here,
capitalising on the ongoing Youth Olympic Games to announce the final
preparations and promotions of the upcoming Asiad.


Ji said the groundwork for the games, which took nearly six years of
preparation, had been completed.

They were now in the final stages of preparing the 70 venues located in
Guangzhou and other cities, including Foshan, Dongguan and Shanwei, which would
be completely ready by next month.

He said four major sport events, namely, dance sports, dragon boat, roller
sports and cricket, and two Chinese ancient board games, Weiqi and Xiangqi,
would make their debut in the Asiad.

And for the first time in this year's Asiad, women's events would also be
included in sports such as boxing, kabbadi (a team contact sport originating in
India), water polo, cricket, roller sports, dragon boat, Weiqi and Xiangqi, for
gender equality, added Ji.
