MALAYSIANS DONATE CASH AND GOODS FOR FLOOD VICTIMS OF PAKISTAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysians from all walks of life have
been actively participating in providing humanitarian assistance to the flood
victims in Pakistan, and so far Rs 6.2 million (about RM228,235) have been
donated through the "Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund 2010".

The Pakistan High Commission in a statement here said a local manufacturing
firm had also donated biscuits worth Rs 1.4 million (about MR51,500).

And a local food manufaturing company, Julie's Perfect Food Manufacturing
(M) Sdn Bhd handed over 1,000 cartons containing 4,032 kilogramme biscuits
valued at Rs 1.35 million (about RM49,700), and a cheque of Rs 81,000 (about
RM2,980) to the Pakistan High Commissioner Masood Khalid here, Tuesday.

It said the Pakistani community in Malaysia had sent Rs.1.7 million (about
RM62,580) in cash and relief goods of 4,900 kilogramme for the flood affected
people.

"In addition, various relief organisations and companies have also been
active to collect funds for the flood victims," the statement said.

Besides this, the Malaysian government had pledged a donation of US$1
million, and the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers
(Bakti) had sent relief goods worth Rs 46 million (about RM1.7 million) by two
Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft recently.

Meanwhile, the Media Prima Berhad in partnership with the New Straits Times
Press (NSTP), and United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) had launched the
"Pakistan Disaster Relief Fund."

The statement also said that Malaysia's Foreign Ministry, Malaysian Red
Crescent Society, Mercy Malaysia, Global Peace Mission, Malaysia, Malaysian
Relief Agency and various other relief agencies have opened bank accounts to
collect funds for the Pakistani flood victims.

The floods in Pakistan have claimed the lives of 1,600 people, made almost
one million people homeless and affected the livelihood of 3.5 million others.
