DUBAI'S NON-OIL TRADE AT NEARLY 280 BLN DIRHAMS IN FIRST HALF 2010

DUBAI, August 23 (Bernama) -- Non-oil trade between Dubai and the outside
world went up by 18 per cent in the first half of 2010 to 279.2 billion dirhams
from 237.6 billion dirhams in the same period last year.

Statistics compiled by Dubai Customs showed that Dubai's total direct
exports to the global markets hit 32.8 billion dirhams in first half 2010
against 23.6 billion dirhams in the same period last year.

The total value of Dubai's imports during January-June 2010 increased by
more than 13 per cent to 177.4 billion dirhams over 156.5 billion dirhams
recorded in the same period of 2009.

"This indicates the growing purchasing power in Dubai as well as lucrative
opportunities for many companies seeking to enhance trade activities in the
market here or through local neighbouring markets," Dubai Customs
director-general Ahmed Butti Ahmed said in a statement.

Re-exports operations also grew by 20 per cent in the first six months of
2010, to 69 billion dirhams from 57.5 billion dirhams in the corresponding
period last year.
