BARON GROUP TO BUILD NEW HOTEL, INCREASE ROOMS

By Zulkafli Ibrahim

LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The Baron Group, which has a network of
five hotels and chalets in northern island resort of Langkawi, plans to increase
occupancy by adding 300 rooms to meet growing demand in the tourism industry.

Managing Director Zailina Mohd Zain said for a start, the group will build this
year, a five-storey hotel with 80 rooms, on reclaimed land near Sungai Kuah.

The project she added, will be completed within a year.

She told Bernama this after presenting cash and prayer mats to 23 orphans at the
de Baron Resort here Tuesday night.

According to Zailina, the company will develop the 300 rooms in phases in the
near future at an investment of RM20 million (US$6.36 million).

Two hundred of the rooms will be in Kuah with the rest in Pantai Cenang.

The Baron Group's network of three-star hotels and chalets have a total of 500
rooms in Kuah and Pantai Cenang. It includes the de Baron Resort with 137 rooms
which began operations last december.

The demand for accommodation in Langkawi is frequently insufficient during
festive seasons, the staging of international events and the school holidays.
