INVESTORS' PERCEPTION NOT AFFECTED BY CARREFOUR'S PROPOSAL, SAYS MUKHRIZ

MELAKA (Malaysia), Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Carrefour's proposal to sell its
hypermarket business in Malaysia will not have a negative effect on investors'
perception towards the country, Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister
Mukhriz Mahathir said Wednesday.

Mukhriz said this was because the company was still operating as normal in
the country.

"Currently, as we know, the hypermarket business is big in Malaysia,
involving not just one brand but various brands," he told reporters after
officiating the "Enhancing World Peace Through International Business" organised
by Universiti Multimedia here.

He said this when asked to comment on reports that Carrefour was considering
selling its business in Malaysia.

Mukhriz said he understood that Carrefour wanted to give attention to the
market in India with a growing number of consumers from the large middle class
group.
