AXIATA SAYS IT IS NOT BIDDING FOR 3G LICENCE IN THAILAND

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Axiata Group Bhd is not bidding for a
third-generation mobile licence in Thailand together with Samart Corp, its Chief
Executive Officer, Jamaludin Ibrahim said Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Samart, a telecom group in Thailand announced it was in
talks with Axiata on plans to participate in the bid.

A report stated that Samart planned to get Samart I-Mobile (SIM),in which
Axiata has 24 per cent stake, to join in for the bid.

"Samart happens to be our affiliate. We own 19.8 per cent of Samart Corp and
24 per cent directly of SIM. But the (news) that we are joining them for the bid
is not true," he told reporters after announcing the company's financial result,
here Wednesday.

On another issue, Jamaludin said Axiata plans to divesify its non-core and
small assets but at this point in time, there was no rush to do so.
