PUTERA 1MALAYSIA CLUB TO AID PAKISTANI FLOOD VICTIMS
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Putera 1Malaysia Club will dispatch 50
people, including 33 doctors, to Pakistan next week to extend aid and relief
efforts following country's worst floods in 80 years.
Putera 1Malaysia Club president Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said other
members of the aid team included volunteers and 10 members of the media.
He said an advance team comprising a doctor, a logistics expert, a guide and
two inquirers would fly to Pakistan on Friday followed by the second team which
would be there for 10 days.
The humanitarian aid team, which is expected to return home on the first day
of Aidilfitri, will dispatch 20 tonnes of aid, including three tonnes of
medicines, to several areas of Pakistan including Islamabad and Peshawar.
He was speaking to reporters after handing over Aidilfitri aid and
essential items to 54 needy people at the Muslim Women Welfare Board, Kampung
Nakhoda, Batu Caves here Wednesday.
Abdul Azeez called on Malaysians to donate essential items like mineral
water which was was badly needed due to the outbreak of contagious diseases like
cholera in flood-stricken areas.
Donors can get in touch with Putera 1Malaysia Club at 03-22736004 and toll
free 1-300-88-1113 or remit contributions to a Public Bank account number
3160792224 under "Kelab Putera 1Malaysia".
On the Aidilfitri aid, he said it would be carried out nationwide with Kedah
state being the next stop.
