NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION WITH A DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The national-level Independence Day
celebration on Tuesday will focus on showcasing the ability and fighting spirit
of the country's security forces.

Culture and Arts Department Director-General Norliza Rofli said over 1,500 armed
forces and police personnel would take part in the performance during the
celebration.

"We are going to showcase something different this year. There will be no
cultural performance, instead we are going to focus on performance by the armed
forces and police," she told Bernama.

The 60-minute performance at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil would
incorporate the elements of the 1Malaysia concept as well as the values of integrity
and patriotism, she said.

There would be eight high-impact segments during the performance, including
defence movement and formation by the armed forces, to rouse the spirit of
independence.

"We will also be showing the images of all Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Malaysian
Supreme King), from the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong until the present 13th, and
paid tribute to our prime ministers since independence," she said.

The new concept was in line with the government's efforts to transform the
country, she added.
