ACMS TO BE UPGRADED AS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

KEPALA BATAS (Penang, Malaysia), Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Allianze College of Medical
Sciences (ACMS) will be upgraded as university college soon, said executive
chairman Dr Zainuddin Md Wazir.

He said the upgrading would enable ACMS to offer 15 new courses including
medicine and medical science at degree and PhD level.

"ACMS was invited to become a university college by the Higher Education
Ministry on July 19.

"We are equipped with infrastructure to provide quality education and are ready
for the challenge," he told reporters at a break of fast here Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, ACMS president and Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of northern state of
Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail urged students interested in
doing medicine to study locally.

"The learning method and system overseas and locally are similar but the cost in
Malaysia is much lower. Studying locally will also check outflow of foreign
exchange."

Syed Faizuddin said other countries had recognised Malaysia as an education hub
with the same status as those in western and middle eastern countries.
