RESPECT SENSITIVITIES OF MUSLIMS WHEN GOING TO MOSQUES - M'SIAN MINISTER

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Everyone, regardless of status or rank,
must take into consideration and respect the sensitivities of Muslims when
visiting a mosque or surau, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department
Jamil Khir Baharom.

"Regardless of whoever he or she is, especially women who are entering a
mosque must consider (the sensitivities)...what more those who are
non-Muslims...because sometimes they are considered as sensitive to other
Muslims," he told Bernama when approached after the official opening of the
Al-Mukhlisin Mosque in Cheras, here Friday.

The opening ceremony was performed by Malaysian King Tuanku Mizan Zainal
Abidin.

Jamil Khir said this when asked to comment on the report in the Malay daily,
Utusan Malaysia, Friday on Member of Parliament from the opposition Democratic
Action Party (DAP), Teo Nie Ching entering the prayer hall of Surau Al-Huda,
Kajang Sentral on Sunday.

He said everyone should refer to the person responsible such as the Selangor
Islamic Religious Council for advice on entering the mosque.

"That is why we, at the major mosques such as the Kuala Lumpur Federal
Territory Mosque, Majid Negara (National Mosque), Masjid Tuanku Mizan we provide
the robe to be worn by tourists including head scarves," he said.
