SECURITY GUARD INJURED IN GRENADE ATTACK IN BANGKOK

By Jamaluddin Muhammad

BANGKOK, Aug 27 (Bernama) -– A security guard was seriously injured when a
grenade exploded at the King Power Duty Free Complex in Rangnam Road here
Thursday night, the second attack in the area within a month.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security Suthep Thaugsuban could not say
whether the 11pm attack was politically motivated but he believed it was
intended to create trouble in the country.

The 24-year-old security guard was reported to have undergone brain surgery this
morning as sharpnel was found embedded in his brain, through the forehead.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Santhan Chayanont said initial
investigations revealed the M79 grenade was launched from a hotel.

On July 30, a bomb exploded opposite the complex near Victory Monument,
seriously injuring a scavenger.
