Six-crore-year old fossils of banana leaves found in Indore
Indore, Aug 29 (PTI) A group of researchers have claimed
to have found over six-crore-years-old fossils of banana
leaves, banyan and coconut trees during an excavation in Dhar
district in central India, about 100 km away from here.
Besides finding these fossils, the researchers of Mangal
Panchaytan Parishad have also found counch-shaped organisms
found in water and that of grass which was buried inside the
earth for ages, Parishad Head, Vishal Varma told PTI.
These fossils were found at the same place where his
group had earlier searched fossils of dinosaur's eggs and its
bones. Madhya Pradesh Government has already decided to set up
a fossil park in this area.
Evidence of existing of a lake spread in an eight km area
were also found in the region with proofs of it being
submerged in volcano's lava.
He also claimed that 24 places were also found where lava
of the volcano got accumulated.
Varma claimed that these fossils indicated existence of
rich bio-diversity in the region. PTI HWP
