Russian servicemen commemorated in Slovenia

LJUBLJANA, July 27 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian prisoners of war, who died under the avalanche on the mountain pass Vrsic in 1916, are commemorated in Slovenia. They were building a road and a bridge near Kranjska-Gora in the Julian Alps.

A joint Catholic and Russian Orthodox service was officiated at the church on the Kranjska-Gora central square on Saturday in commemoration of soldiers and officers of the Russian imperial army. Russian Archbishop of Samara and Syzran Sergius and Slovenian Catholic hierarchs were leading the service.

The Russian Orthodox choir from Samara and the Petersburg choir"Smolny" gave concerts in Kranjska-Gora. Public figures from Russia and Slovenia had an informal meeting. The Guard of Honor of the Russian Defense Ministry staged a performance on one of the central squares of Ljubljana.

The major events on occasion of the tragic date will be held on Sunday. The commemoration events will be held at the Russian Orthodoxchapel, which was built on the Vrsic pass near the place, where Russian prisoners of war died. The delegations of senior officials from Russia and Slovenia will attend the events. State Duma Vice-Speaker Lyubov Sliska will head the Russian delegation.
