Petersburg to be presented as major tourist center in Prague

PETERSBURG, July 27 (Itar-Tass) - A presentation of Petersburg as a major center of international tourism will be held in Prague on Sunday.

A delegation of officials of the Petersburg authorities,businesspeople, employees of tourist companies and the tourist industry will arrive in the capital of the Czech Republic on Sunday. The Russian delegation will familiarize Czech partners with the development of the tourist industry in the Russian northern capital.

The action aims at further promotion of Petersburg on the Europeantourist market, an official of the tourism department of the Petersburg committee for investments and strategic projects, Galina Gromova, told Itar-Tass.

"We are also seeking to give a fresh impetus to economic and cultural ties with Prague. In this respect, we are planning a business dialogue to discuss broader bilateral cooperation, including in tourism," she said.

The Petersburg presentation will be held under the Russian tourismdevelopment program intended up to 2010. For the period of the program's implementation the city on the Neva River has renovated drastically the tourist infrastructure, more hotels are under construction. As many as 167 hotel projects are under implementation.

There will be 34,000 hotel rooms in Petersburg soon, as now there are about 20,000 of them at 369 hotels.
