MEDICAL TEAM IN NEW DELHI TO ENSURE SAFE AND HEALTHY GAMES




KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent to the 19th
Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India from Oct 3-14, can be rest assured of
their safety and health, as the games organizing committee have made elaborate
arrangements to ensure a safe and healthy Games.

According to the official website of the New Delhi Commonwealth Games Organising
Committee (OC), the medical programme for the Games will not only cover athletes
and officials but also spectators and media.

"The OC has assigned three designated hospitals, a polyclinic at the Games
Village, medical centres at all stadiums, competition and training venues and
road races, first aid posts for spectators at competition venues and
round-the-clock cover at the Main Press Centre and International Broadcasting
Centre," according to the website.

Media in Malaysia recently published a photo and story about the spread of
dengue fever in New Delhi and the National Sports Institute (ISN) later issued
an advisory to the Malaysian contingent to take extra precaution of hygiene when
in New Delhi.

The website said the three designated hospitals are the G.B. Pant Hospital, JPN
Apex Trauma Centre (AIIMS) and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, all of which are
ready.

The Polyclinic at the Games Village will be handed over on Sept 7, while the
Medical Centres at the stadiums would all be ready for the Games.

The report said 1882 dedicated members, identified from various governments,
will be there as part of a specialized medical workforce for the Games while 386
doctors, 262 nursing staff, 103 physiotherapists, 95 message therapists sourced
from the Government of Kerala will be part of medical workforce along with 179
medical students as volunteers.

There will be 64 ambulances with 857 support staff of ambulance crews and first
aid staff to offer round-the-clock services.
