MALAYSIAN CONTINGENT WANTS LATEST HEALTH REPORT BEFORE LEAVING FOR NEW DELHI
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian High Commissioner to India
has been asked to give the latest report on the health and security situation in
New Delhi before the contingent leaves at month's end.
Commonwealth Games general manager Jefri Ngadirin said this was necessary
despite regular contact with Malaysian representatives in India and feedback
from the games organiser.
"We are worried with the spread of dengue fever in India as it can spoil our
quest for medals," he told Bernama Wednesday.
The lawn bowls squad will be the first group of Malaysian athletes to arrive
in New Delhi on Sept 24.
The Indian media reported 140 dengue cases early last month of which 123
were recorded in New Delhi.
Jefri said the National Sports Institute (ISN) will brief the Malaysian
Commonwealth Games contingent on all aspects of healthcare.
He reminded athletes to mind their eating habit during Aidilfitri by cutting
down on fatty food and sugar as it could affect their performance.
Malaysia, led by chef de mission Abdul Halil Abd Mutalib, will be
represented by 203 athletes and 99 officials competing in 14 sports.
They are aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling,
gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, shooting, squash, rugby, table tennis and
weightlifting.
