NO REPORTS THAT LOCAL INVESTORS IN SULAWESI AFFECTED BY BENDERA'S ACTIONS
GURUN (Kedah, Malaysia), Sept 3 (Bernama) -- There are no reports indicating
Malaysian investors in Sulawesi, Indonesia, have been affected to the extent of
halting operations there due to the actions of the Benteng Demokrasi Rakyat
Indonesia (Bendera).
Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Mukhriz Mahathir
said, although there had been some disturbing incidents, the situation was still
under control and had not affected the good relations between Malaysia and
Indonesia.
"There are many many benefits to be reaped from the good relations and not
just from the economic and political stand point but also the social aspect," he
told reporters after an Eid Fitri function here Friday.
He also said there was no reason why Indonesian citizens working in Malaysia
need to go back home merely on the exhortation of a group supposedly
representing the majority of the people in the country.
"I have received a report from the representative of more than two million
Indonesian workers here, stating, they did not agree with the exhortation of the
group and wished to continue working in the country," Mukhriz added.
Bendera is an anti-Malaysian group that has been inciting demonstrations
against the country in Indonesia.
