SECOND AID MISSION OF PUTERA MALAYSIA LEAVES FOR PAKISTAN
SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The second humanitarian aid
mission consisting of 68 volunteers and members from the Kelab Putera 1Malaysia
(1Malaysia Putera Club) left for Pakistan Friday to provide assistance to the
flood victims in that country.
The mission, which was was led by the club's president, Abdul Azeez
Abdul Rahim, departed from the KL International Airport here at 2.30pm and
expected to return home on Sept 12.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Abdul Azeez said this time the group
had brought along about 20 tonnes of foodstuff, 15 tonnes medical aid and 15
tonnes of mineral water.
"Apart from club members, we also have 33 doctors and medical assistants in
our group," he said.
"We will be divided into seven groups who will be assigned to the affected
areas like Karachi, Lahore, Punjab, Islamabad, and several interior places in
Hydrabad," Abdul Azeez said.
At each stop, the group would set up a post and fly the Malaysian flag in
conjunction with Malaysia's 53rd Independence Day celebration on Aug 31.
The mission was sent to Pakistan following the recent flood disaster which
had killed 1,600 people with one millionn people losing their homes and
affecting the livelihood of 3.5 million others.
