IMPROVED PUBLIC-PRIVATE SECTOR SYNERGIES IMPORTANT, SAYS SALANG

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama)-- To realise the vision of a high income nation,
the government understands the importance of improving synergies between the
public and private sectors.

This is also to make investing and operating in the country more attractive,
says Deputy Minister of Information Communication and Culture, Joseph Salang.

Speaking at the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence Awards (MSEA)ceremony here
Friday, he said the programme is a shining example of how a corporate
organisation can come forward to help create a diverse Malaysian talent pool to
help drive the national vision.

Maxis, one of Malaysia's biggest telco operator, presented scholarships to 29
high achieving young Malaysians, including children of Maxis Postpaid customers
and its employees.

Since the inception of the programme in 2005, Maxis has allocated more than RM20
million (US$6.4 million) for the MSEA and endowed scholarships to 22
postgraduate and 87 undergraduate students. (US$1=RM3.12)

Also present at the ceremony was Maxis Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sandip Das.

The next window of selection for the undergraduate scholarship awards will be
open from November. Applications for postgraduate scholarships may be sent
throughout the year.
