PEOPLE REMINDED NOT TO INCITE RACIAL ANIMOSITY
PUTRAJAYA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The people were Thursday reminded not to raise
issues which can cause animosity among the races as this can jeopardise the
government's development plans.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the government had drawn up various
agendas and plans for the well-being of the people including in the economic,
educational and social sectors.
He said Prime Minister Najib Razak had also stated that the government would not
compromise with any quarters out to create racial disturbance and anger in the
country.
Muhyiddin said the governnment did not want a repeat of such turmoil as the May
13, 1969 racial riots as it could destabilise the country.
"That is why we want to see Malaysians regardless of race, religion and
(political) ideology to work together and cooperate in fostering unity for the
success of the country's socio-economic programmes," he said.
He was speaking after breaking fast with about 1,000 Umno (United Malays
National Organisation) and other Barisan Nasional component party members from
the Pagoh division at his official residence, Sri Satria, here, Thursday.
Muhyiddin said to make the government's development plans a success, the Malay
Muslims in this country must be the pillar in ensuring stability.
Therefore, he said all races must work as a team to ensure the success of these
plans which would enable the people to enjoy greater benefits from the rapid
economic growth which was expected to be even better next year.
At the function, Muhyiddin also handed over goodies to more than 100 orphans
from the Kelana Jaya and Lembah Subang Housing Projects for the Hardcore Poor.
