24-HOUR MONITORING AT TEBEDU BORDER CROSSING

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The police have stepped up
round-the clock monitoring at the Tebedu Customs, Immigration and Quarantine
(CIQ) Complex at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border in view of the anti-Malaysia
protests in Indonesia and the coming Aidilfitri (celebration to mark the end of
Ramadan month), Serian police chief DSP Mohd Jamali Umi said Thursday.

He said the number of Indonesians who passed through the Tebedu CIQ complex rose
to almost 25,000 in August because of the approaching Aidilfitri compared to the
usual 15,000.

The Tebedu CIQ complex only operated from 6am to 6pm daily but the police
monitoring would be carried out 24 hours a day, he said when contacted.
