Terrorist explosion on army base in N Caucasus leaves 5 dead.
MAKHACHKALA, September 5 (Itar-Tass) -- A suicide bomber's attack on
the field camp of a mechanized infrantry brigade in the town of Buinaksk,
Russia's North Caucasian region of Dagestan, has left five soldiers dead
and another 26, wounded, a spokesman for the Dagestani branch of the
Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ told
Itar-Tass.
The incident occurred around 01:00 hours when the bomber driving a
Lada small car stuffed with an explosive rammed his car through the gate
of the field camp.
Of the 26 wounded servicemen, 22 were in a medium-heavy condition at
the time of reporting.
Another three servicemen were in an extremely heavy condition and two
more servicemen, in a heavy one, the EMERCOM spokesman said.
About ten soldiers received light injuries and medical aid to them was
given right on the spot.
As for the heavily wounded, most of them have been taken to the
Buinaksk military hospital but some are getting treatment at a city
hospital.
The military facility targeted by the terrorists Sunday morning is
located on the outskirts of Buinaksk near the village of
Khalimbek-aul.
