Rural electrification in Nam Bark

(KPL) Nam Bark district of the northern province of Luang Prabang hasrecently been connected to the electric grid.

The rural electrification programme in this district is funded 350 million kip by the Lao government and provided a 155-kw diesel-run generator, valuedat 50 million kip, procured by people contribution.

The construction of facilities started in early 2007. The work also included the installation of medium- and high-voltage grids in seven villages. The programme also builds a vocational school for local ethnic groups. There are 809 families using electricity. But until now, electricity meters have beeninstalled for only 180 families. The work is continuing.
