POLICE ARREST 21 FOREIGNERS FOR MISUSING SOCIAL VISIT PASS
KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested 21
foreigners for misusing their social visit pass to enter the country under "Ops
Noda" conducted throughout the fasting month.
Kuala Terengganu police chief Supt Zamri Shamsuddin said the 21, eighteen of
them Thai women, two Laotian women and a Myanmar man, were picked up in 17 raids
on five entertainment outlets in this city where they worked as waiters.
The police also detained the owners of three outlets for employing
individuals who did not have a valid pass, he told reporters in Kuala
Terengganu, is the largest city as well as the state and royal capital of
Terengganu, a east coast state in Peninsular Malaysia.
"They will be remanded for 15 days to facilitate investigations before they
are brought to court," he added.
Zamri said the police also issued summonses to four of the five outlets
under Section 61 of the State Entertainment Enactment for doing business without
a licence.
He said several other operations were conducted throughout Ramadan, namely
Ops Lejang to prevent motorcycle theft, house break-in operation and snatch
theft operation.
"As a result of these operations we were able to prevent a number of
motorcycle thefts, break-ins and snatch thefts," he said.
Zamri said the police would send notices to letterboxes reminding the public
to take care of their belongings during the festive season.
"We hope they will cooperate by informing the nearest police station should
they plan to go for a long holiday this Aidilfitri. They should include their
phone number in the notices for the convenience of the police," he added.
