CORPORATIONS URGED TO CONTINUE CONTRIBUTING TO THE POOR

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin
Yassin has urged corporations to continue contributing to the poor at all times
and not only during festive seasons.

"The government's long term objective is not only to look after their
welfare but to bring them out from the poverty cycle," he said at a the breaking
of fast by Yayasan Al-Bukhary at Al-Bukhary Mosque in Jalan Hang Tuah Sunday.

He said although the government had programmes and institutions to help the
poor and disabled, the contributions were inadequate to meet their needs.

"We hope that efforts by Yayasan Al-Bukhary and other corporations will not
only reduce their burden but also make then independent," he added.

Muhyiddin also presented aid to 300 less fortunate people including single
mothers, orphans and the disabled (OKU).
