Laos to open consulate in Jinghong

VIETIANE,SEPT.06 (KPL) - The Lao People’s Democratic Republic will officially open a new consulate in Jinghong city, Xishuangbanna prefecture, Yunnan province of China in October 2010, but the issuance of visas for Laos entry will be available there from 15 September of this year.
The opening of the new consulate of Laos in Jinghong is based on a letter dated 7 August of the Lao government on the establishment of the new consulate in Jinghong and an agreement dated 20 August, 2010 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The new consulate in Jinghong will facilitate Chinese people who are living in Xishuangbanna prefecture to do trade and visit northern provinces of Laos.
According to a source from the foreign affairs office of Jinghong city, the people of Jinghong has spent around US$ 300 to obtain a visa for Laos from the Lao consulate in Kumming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan province.
