ECER WOOS CHINESE INVESTORS TO EAST COAST ECONOMIC REGION

XIAMEN, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The East Coast Economic Region Development
Council (ECERDC) expects to attract Chinese investors to the East Coast Economic
Region (ECER), particularly to invest in the oil and gas, agriculture,
tourism, manufacturing and education industries.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Jebasingam Issace John, said ECERDC
was offering attractive fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to boost investment in
tourism, oil, gas and petrochemical, manufacturing, agriculture and education in
the economic region.

ECERDC will facilitate investors keen to invest in the diverse range of
industries available to them for investment," he told reporters here after a
meeting with Wang Xiaochun, the Deputy Director General of Science, Industry,
Trade and Information Technology Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, here
Tuesday.

The meeting was held in conjunction with the 14th China International Fair
for Investment and Trade (CIFIT 2010) in Xiamen, which will begin here Sept 8
and conclude on September 11.

The ECERDC delegation is led by Council Member, Lee Shin Cheng, who
is also the Executive Chairman of IOI Group.

Jebasingam said the ECER which covers Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and the
district of Mersing in Johor had good infrastructure, abundant land, natural
resources, good quality human capital.

"With its strategic location and strong government support at both the
federal and state levels, ECER is poised to become a major trade and industrial
gateway.

"It also offers investors access to the vast, burgeoning markets of the Far
East and the Asia Pacific, with a total population of four billion and a
combined GDP of US$17 trillion," he added.

ECER projects to be promoted during CIFIT 2010 include tourism projects
namely Pantai Sepat Mainland Coastal Tourism, Teluk Bidara Mainland Coastal
Tourism, Cherating Mainland Coastal Tourism, Pantai Penarik Coastal Tourism and
the Kuala Terengganu City Centre.

Jebasingam said ECERDC was also aiming to interest investors in the Kertih
Polymer Park, PETRONAS Petroleum Industry Complex (PPIC), Gebeng Integrated
Petrochemical Complex (GIPC) and the Tanjung Agas Oil & Gas Maritime Industrial
Park.

Manufacturing projects to be promoted will be the Pekan-Peramu Automotive
Industrial Park, Gambang Halal Park, Pasir Mas Halal Park, Palm Oil Industrial
Cluster and Kuantan Port City.

Agriculture projects open to investors in the region include the poultry
production parks in Kelantan and Pahang, livestock production in Terengganu and
Pahang, the Rompin Integrated pineapple plantation, as well as the herbal and
biotechnology parks in Pahang and Kelantan.

Education wise, the Knowledge Park in Terengganu and the Terengganu ICT
Centre will be promoted during CIFIT 2010.
