PAKISTAN SEEKS OUTSIDE EXPERTISE IN REHABILITATION
From Mohd Hisham Abdul Rafar
KARACHI (PAKISTAN), Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Pakistan is seeking assistance from
overseas, including Malaysia, as it plans rehabilitation of houses and buildings
damaged by the massive floods recently.
Welcoming outside help in the rehabilitation, especially in his province,
Sindh Province governor Dr Ishrat Il Ebad said the authorities in his province
were finalising plans to that effect.
"The implementation of a comprehensive programme involving repairs and
rebuilding houses for the flood victims will start after the plan is finalised,"
he said after meeting the Putera 1Malaysia Club delegation here Wednesday.
Dr Ishrat also thanked Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak for sending
the Putera 1Malaysia Club to help the flood victims.
The club's humanitarian mission to Pakistan, led by club president
Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, comprises 68 volunteers, among them 40 doctors, as well
as journalists.
The floods left a fifth of the country under water and affected over 17
million people.
The delegation also met Sindh Health Minister Dr Sashees Ahmed, who is also
trustee for non-governmental organisation Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF).
Dr Sashees, who thanked Malaysia for helping the flood victims, said KKF
would facilitate the humanitarian mission.
